Current technology offered by Millennium Inc. in partnership with NativeNames.net will allow the actual browsing and issuance of FULL ARABIC URL through Multilingual DNS system. This is technology developed based on coexisting with the current DNS and utilizing BIND 9.1 to be launched in phases during 2001-2002 in UAE, The Gulf Region, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and the USA.

Based on an IDC projection, the Arabic computer market will purchase over 5 million computers during the period 2000‑2003. This will consist of 2.5 million for GCC Countries (Gulf Cooperation Council), 1.25 million for Egypt, 1 million for North Africa and 0.25 a million for the remaining countries. E‑mail is undoubtedly the most prominent network application in use today. According to major industry analysts, companies and organizations of all types are becoming increasingly reliant on E‑mail for conducting ongoing business and performing a variety of supporting interactions Industry.

The Internet and The Arabic Domain Name History (Past, Present and Future)

The concept of Arabic Domain Names and browsing the internet in non English URLs in general is young and so new that many people don’t believe it is an available option nor it is a reality. Sadly, this is widely spread around our Arab I.Ts and many other third world countries I.Ts that don’t even recognize this advanced technology available today to all.

Our Arab consumer is not using the internet in a positive fashion or as a tool to reach higher education grounds for an unlimited source of flow of knowledge to gain experience. For example, sampling of 75 internet cafes in Amman averaged of over 95% of the users are interested in chatting and playing games on the internet. This number was no different in UAE at 91% and somehow better in Cairo at 80%. Saudi Arabia came on top in this aspect with an almost 50% positive usage for business applications and learning channels.

Most of the current Arab portals succeed today only if they provide chat rooms, music downloads, games and jokes. This is so sad as we don’t see much of this traffic flowing towards many of the portals that are full with knowledge, technology information, global news, e-markets and other learning channels. From this we conclude that it is our duty to educate our consumer about the massive information available on the internet that can be utilized to enhance the arab community and later build a Cyber Arab Community.

Below is an estimate of the current usage rate of the internet in the Arab World and we hope that our future entails a much larger numbers of this limited projection.

أسماء مواقع الإنترنت باالعربية: ما هي أهميتها، وفوائدها.

ما زالت الاهتمام يتزايد بين العديد من مستخدمي الإنترنت من العرب على الحصول على أسماء نطاقات باللغة العربية لمواقعهم على الإنترنت، في الوقت الذي ما زال يشكك فيه كثيرون من جدوى استخدام العربية ، بل ومحاربة هذا التوجه أصلا.

* كيف بدأت الحاجة أصلا لأسماء النطاقات؟

كانت شبكات أجهزة الكومبيوتر صغيرة في ما مضى لا يتعدى حجمها بضعة عشرات من أجهزة الكومبيوتر. ولذلك كان مسيرو هذه الشبكات يسمون كل كومبيوتر باسم معين لا يحمله غيره، ويضعون في ذاكرته لائحة كاملة بأسماء جيرانه من أجهزة الكومبيوتر مع العناوين الرقمية التي تعادلها حتى يتمكن كل منها من التواصل مع باقي أعضاء الشبكة. ثم أخذت هذه اللوائح تطول حتى عاد من غير المعقول استعمالها، لأنه كان على مدير الشبكة أن يضيف اسم كل كومبيوتر ينضم إليها إلى لائحة الأسماء في كل واحد من أجهزة الكومبيوتر الأخرى كل على حدة. ولهذا أصبح من الضروري التحول إلى نظام أكثر مرونة، ومن هنا بدأت فكرة نظام أسماء النطاقات أي نظام "دي إن إس" (DNS) الذي يمكن الملايين من أجهزة الكومبيوتر المنتشرة عبر قارات العالم من التواصل فيما بينها. وينبني هذا النظام على أجهزة كومبيوتر متخصصة تتكفل بحفظ لوائح الأسماء والعناوين الرقمية في شكل شجري يسمى أصله بالجذر وفروعه بالنطاقات. ووظيفة هذه الأجهزة الخادمة الإجابة عن الأسئلة المتعلقة بأسماء الأجهزة التي ترد من كل كومبيوترات العالم. فإذا أراد الكومبيوتر المسمى "ألف" مثلا أن يتصل بالكومبيوتر المسمى "باء" الذي لا يعرف عنوانه الرقمي فإنه يتصل بمزود الأسماء أولا ويسأله عن عنوان "باء"، فيعطيه المزود العنوان، ثم يتصل "ألف" بالجهاز "باء" مستعملا العنوان الذي حصل عليه من مزود الأسماء.

* قد يتساءل البعض أولا ما الحاجة إلى أسماء نطاقات عربية، وقد ألفنا العيش من دونها ولم تنقص منا شيئا؟

إذا قال قائل: ما حاجتنا إلى أسماء نطاقات بالعربية. فسندعوه للتساؤل كذلك عن حاجتنا إلى الإنترنت أو إلى أجهزة الكومبيوتر أصلا؟ فالناظر في هذه المسألة بعمق وتفكر لا يمكنه أن يشك برهة واحدة في أهمية أسماء النطاقات بالعربية، بل انه سيقتنع بضرورتها. والجواب على المشككين ذو وجهين، هما الأهمية التاريخية والحضارية، والأهمية النفعية العملية. وفي ما يلي تفصيل لبعض جوانبهما، وللقارئ الكريم أن يفكر في المنافع الأخرى التي يعسر عدها هنا لضيق المجال. إن الأمم تقاس بإنجازاتها وبحضورها الثقافي والحضاري على الساحة الدولية، وخصوصا في عصر العولمة هذا. فاللغة العربية من أعرق اللغات وأسماها تاريخا وأطولها باعا في العلوم، وأكثرها بيانا وأشدها صمودا أمام بلاء السنين، وهي الوحيدة التي حازت شرف عبارة القرآن الكريم الذي هو آخر كتاب سماوي إلى أن تقوم الساعة. ويجدر بنا عوض التغني بعبارة "كان أبي" الذي ألفناه منذ عصور أن نهب وننهض من سباتنا ونفرض على العالم حضورنا. وأي الميادين أحق بالحضور الآن من ميدان الإنترنت؟ إنه حلبة الصراع الجديدة التي تمكن الضعيف من التقوّي بأدنى المقومات. ففيه توزع المعارف وفيه تكتظ الأسواق وفيه يحدث كل ما يخطر على البال. ولهذا فإنه ينبغي للإنسان العربي أن يغتنم الفرصة ليقوي حضوره في ساحة الإنترنت. وأي شيء أفضل من أن تكون المواقع العربية ذات أسماء عربية حتى يتمكن من الوصول إليها من لا يعرف الإنجليزية منا، وأكثرنا لا يعرفها. وأي شرف للعرب على الإنترنت أبلغ من أن تكون مواقعهم مسماة بلغتهم ولا يحتاجوا بعدها إلى الأسماء الإنجليزية التي إنما هي نوع من العبودية الفكرية التي ينبغي أن نعمل جاهدين للتخلص منها.

* يقول فريق من المعارضين لاستخدام اللغة العربية أن الحروف الإنجليزية تفي بحاجات أسماء النطاقات بدليل كثرة النطاقات ذات الأسماء العربية المكتوبة بالحروف الإنجليزية.

مع أن هناك من لديه هذا الوهم إلا أن الواقع يقول أن الحروف الإنجليزية غير كافية بتاتا لتمثيل الكلمات العربية لأنها تعجز أصلا عن تمثيل حروف عربية في منتهى الأهمية كالضاد والطاء والحاء والخاء والعين والغين والهمزة. وكم من المواقع العربية شوهت الحروف الإنجليزية اسمه حتى اختل نطقه بشكل عجيب، ولا داعي لذكر الأمثلة فالكل يعرف بعضها. وليت الأمر توقف عند هذا الحد، بل حتى ولو تمكن المرء من كتابة اسمه بشكل سليم بالحروف الإنجليزية فإنه من المستحيل التخلص من لواصق لا معنى لها" مثل "كوم" و"أورغ"، وهذا أمر غير محمود على أية حال. أنظر إلى الأمم الأخرى وقد احتضنت تقنيات أسماء النطاقات بلغاتها ببالغ التفاني، فالصينيون واليابانيون يتهافتون على شراء أسماء نطاقاتهم بلغاتهم الأم بفخر واعتزاز. أونحن أقل منهم عزة أو أذل منهم نفوسا. كلا ثم كلا، إنما ينقصنا الوعي بخطورة الأمر وقد آن الأوان لنستفيق.

* إذا ما هي فوائد الحصول على اسم نطاق باللغة العربية؟

من الناحية العملية فإن لتوافر أسماء النطاقات باللغة العربية خصوصا، وباللغات ذوات الحروف غير اللاتينية عموما أهمية قصوى، وبخاصة للشركات والمؤسسات. فالشركات التي تحوز على أسماء نطاقات عربية يمكنها أن تعزز بذلك صورتها في أعين المستهلكين والزبائن والشركاء على السواء، وأن تضمن قسطا أكبر من السوق بجعل مواقعها على الإنترنت في متناول من لا يحسن الإنجليزية، الذين يشكلون أكبر شرائح المجتمعات العربية الآن، كما يمكنها أن تقيم عدة مواقع تستهدف بلدانا معينة يكون اسم كل موقع بلغة البلد الذي يستهدفه. ومن الفوائد العملية لاقتناء أسماء النطاقات المبكر بالنسبة للشركات والمؤسسات، أن هذا الاقتناء المبكر سيكون بمثابة وسيلة تأمين زهيدة الثمن. فالرجل الحازم الذي يشتري اسم نطاق شركته بالعربية الآن، وإن لم يكن ينوي استعماله فورا، يدفع ثمنا ضئيلا بالمقارنة مع الرجل المتواني الذي يشك في صلاحية اسم النطاق هذا وينتظر حتى يشتري غيره اسم النطاق الذي يريده، فيضطر إلى دفع الأموال الباهظة لاسترجاع ما كان بوسعه أن يحوز بقروش معدودة. ولا يشكن أحد في أن زمن هيمنة اللغة الإنجليزية على الإنترنت قد ولى إلى غير رجعة، فكل المؤشرات الآن تشير إلى أن زمن أسماء النطاقات غير الإنجليزية قد طلع علينا وهو أمر واقع لا ريب فيه. أما بالنسبة للأشخاص، فإن اقتناء أسماء القبائل والعائلات والاهتمامات عموما أمر ذو أهمية كبيرة إذا كانوا ممن يهتم بمواكبة الإنترنت وتطوراته، بل إنه أيضا فرصة ذهبية للاستثمار، فكثير من قد اغتنى في لحظة واحدة ببيع اسم نطاق واحد، فقد بيعت أسماء النطاقات بملايين الدولارات ولازالت، فاسم "بزنس.كوم" على سبيل المثال بيع بثمانية ملايين دولار أمريكي، وهناك كثير غيره من الأسماء التي بيعت بأسعار باهظة. والواقع أن الحصول على اسم نطاق للاستعمال الشخصي أصبح اليوم يعادل الحصول على بطاقة هوية أو حتى على انتماء فكري أو لغوي أو حضاري ما. وأصبح الناس يتبادلون عناوين الويب والبريد الإلكتروني عوض عناوين البنايات وأرقام الهاتف.

ومما يسوغ ضرورة اقتناء أسماء النطاقات العربية حتى لمن ليست له غيرة على لغته، أنه عاد من المستحيل وجود أسماء لائقة بالإنجليزية ولغات أوروبا الغربية عموما، فلم يبق من كلمات القاموس الإنجليزي غير حفنة من الكلمات لا معنى لها، وحتى الأرقام المشهورة سجلت. إلا أن الأمر لازال يختلف بالنسبة للعربية، ولعلي لا أصدق أن قلت هذا غدا، فلن تلبث أحسن كلمات العربية وأكثرها فائدة في الأعمال والتجارة وغيرها أن تحجز فلا يبقى للمتأخرين في التسجيل إلا الحثالة من الأسماء.
